Episode 2 — Sophos 10/4/2009

Written by Matthew JC Powell Fri Apr 10 2009, 04:03pm

MJCP and Sean McNamara speak with Paul Ducklin, Sophos's Head of Technology, Asia-Pacific. While security threats are in the media almost constantly, they're barely a blip on the horizon for Mac users. Separating myths and hype from reality can be a tricky business, but these three have a go. Do we need to worry about doom scenarios? Are Macs inherently safer than Windows PCs? Are we protected by relatively small market share and, if so, what is the tipping point where we need to start to worry? What are the dumb things people do that allow their computers to become infected?

Sophos — Security software vendor.

Symantec — Another security software vendor.

Intego — And yet another security software vendor.

Episode 1 — Acqualia 3/4/09

Written by Matthew JC Powell Thu Apr 2 2009, 09:26pm

MJCP and Alex Kidman chat with Zac Cohan and Nik Youdale from Acqualia, developer of Picturesque and Soulver. While still at University they've created an award-winning graphics app (and updated it), and they're now embarking on iPhone development. They discuss iPhone 3.0, the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference, next year's Macworld Expo without Apple, the controversy over MacHeist (in which they participated) and the early working relationship of Steves Jobs and Wozniak.

For further reading:

Acqualia — creator of Picturesque, Soulver and some top-secret iPhone app.

MacHeist — the uber-bundle of software that comes out each year at remarkable prices.

WWDC09 — Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (yeah, it should either be "World Wide Developer Conference" or they should call it "WDC" — it's weird).
